Primary Years 1 to 8 Maths

Maths Aotearoa for the New Zealand Curriculum

Maths Aotearoa Level 2 is divided into two books, 2a and 2b. Students working at 2a are learning to move their additive thinking from a reliance on counting to using basic addition and subtraction facts as well as place-value knowledge. They will also begin to develop multiplicative thinking by seeing multiplication represented by an array as well as a repeated addition and skip counting.

Geometry, Measurement and Statistics at Level 2a require the same type of mathematical thinking as the Number and Algebra work in this book.

Level 2a Teacher Book provides the tools to plan a mathematics programme to meet the needs of all students.

The book is divided into units of work, with curriculum links and learning progression links for each unit. Each chapter identifies the concept development, key knowledge and specific learning outcomes covered. Teacher guidance is provided to build teacher expert content knowledge and demonstrate how to make the best use of the pages in the pupil book. There are assessment tasks and a record sheet for tracking individual students’ progress, as well as answers to all questions. Links to appropriate Figure it Out activities and Wilkie Way resources for each chapter are also included.
